ouR FOUNDERS
Over 25 years ago, Jason and Amy met while in college. Jason was a baseball player majoring in History/Political science and Amy was a music education major. They began dating in October of that year, were engaged 8 months later, and married a year after that. Since that time the Lord has blessed them with three children: Jacob, Katie Beth, and Kimi.
Jason and Amy have taught in the Georgia public school system for over 20 years and Jason spent five years as an assistant principal. Throughout their marriage they have served in many various ministry roles. Jason, a licensed minister, also co-founded The Journey Ministries, an event-based men’s ministry, in 2011 and continues to serve in a leadership role. The Carters have always felt a calling to make an impact in the lives of others, whether teaching, coaching, directing musicals, or serving in ministry.
On September 5, 2016, life was forever changed for the Carter family. After visiting home for the Labor Day weekend, their 18 year old middle child, Katie Beth, was returning to school at Jacksonville State University when her vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler. Katie Beth, who was a strong, beautiful, vibrant young lady, was killed instantly. The events of that day and the months following became a time of deep sorrow, but also a place of higher calling for the Carters. While mourning her death, the beautiful impact of her life became truly apparent.
Through cards, letters, social media, and conversations, the Carters learned of countless stories where Katie Beth’s life had touched and even changed the lives of others. It was during this time that #liveandlovelikekb began appearing. Even though she may not have realized it during her time on earth, Katie Beth deeply affected the lives of those she came in contact with by simply living and loving well. Her strong faith and excitement for life was contagious and continues to ripple as a testimony to many.
In the midst of their grieving, Jason and Amy stood on the promise of Isaiah 61:3 that God gives beauty for ashes. They began to pray about how God could use this part of their story, as difficult as it was, for a greater glory. God led them to continue Katie Beth’s legacy of living and loving well by establishing Live and Love Ministries. Through speaking opportunities, written messages, and the daily example of their lives, Jason and Amy hope to encourage and inspire others to leave a legacy of love. They have published a book about their journey (Oaks & Ruins) and their desire would be to transition into Live and Love Ministries full time.
